Our Local Charities

When you contribute to Community Health Charities at the national level or to Community Health Charities of Virginia, your contribution is directed to our member charities that conduct research and provide support and care to hundreds of thousands of people across the nation and across Virginia.  Before a charity becomes a member of CHC at the national or local level, we conduct rigorous screening.  We want donors to know that their contributions are going to viable agencies that make an impact.

Member charities of CHC must meet rigid accountability standards and undergo an annual application and review process that requires the following:  IRS 501(c) 3 non-profit status; governance by an active, voluntary board of directors; fund raising and administrative costs at or below industry standards; and, certain other specified internal CHC requirements related to provision of services.  CHC national-level members are listed at the Home Page of this web site.

CHC of Virginia has similar standards.  CHC of Virginia automatically accepts all national-level members of CHC as potential and probable members of CHC Virginia and represents them in all national level campaigns conducted in Virginia.

For intra-Virginia campaigns CHC of Virginia accepts all CHC national-level members that meet existing in-Virginia campaign requirements set by the various campaign administrators.  Typically, administrators use the rules from the state employee campaign.  Those rules require the following:

  • Registration with the Virginia Department of Consumer Affairs and the State Corporation Commission.
  • An office within, or immediately adjacent to, Virginia.
  • Documentation of services for Virginians.

Where we represent both a national-level charity and a local branch or affiliate of that same charity, we typically list the local element in our official listing.  (For a complete national-level listing, return to the CHC Home Page.)
