Our Local Charities

When you contribute to Community Health Charities at the national level or to Community Health Charities of Virginia, your contribution is directed to our member charities that conduct research and provide support and care to hundreds of thousands of people across the nation and across Virginia.  Before a charity becomes a member of Community Health Charities at the national or local level, we conduct rigorous screening.  We want donors to know that their contributions are going to viable agencies that make an impact.

Member charities of Community Health Charities must meet rigid accountability standards and undergo an annual application and review process that requires the following:  IRS 501(c) 3 non-profit status; governance by an active, voluntary board of directors; fund raising and administrative costs at or below industry standards; and, certain other specified internal Community Health Charities requirements related to provision of services.  Community Health Charities national-level members are listed at the Home Page of this web site.

Community Health Charities of Virginia has similar standards.  Community Health Charities of Virginia automatically accepts all national-level members of Community Health Charities as potential and probable members of Community Health Charities Virginia and represents them in all national level campaigns conducted in Virginia.

For intra-Virginia campaigns Community Health Charities of Virginia accepts all Community Health Charities national-level members that meet existing in-Virginia campaign requirements set by the various campaign administrators.  Typically, administrators use the rules from the state employee campaign.  Those rules require the following:

  • Registration with the Virginia Department of Consumer Affairs and the State Corporation Commission.
  • An office within, or immediately adjacent to, Virginia.
  • Documentation of services for Virginians.

Where we represent both a national-level charity and a local branch or affiliate of that same charity, we typically list the local element in our official listing.  (For a complete national-level listing, return to the Community Health Charities Home Page.)
